Unusual Policies

NFL football player Troy Polamalu's hair has been insured by shampoo company, Proctor & Gamble for $1m (£650,000) with Lloyd's of London.

The Pittsburgh Steelers defender has distinctive 3ft-long (1m) hair which hangs down his back and makes him an easy target to tackle. In 2006 he was grabbed by the Kansas City Chiefs' Larry Johnson and pulled down by his hair as he was running for a touchdown after an intercepted pass. Usually defenders do not get tackled so there is a fashion within the NFL for defenders to grow their hair longer.

Polamalu, 29, who is Samoan by descent admits he has not cut his hair for 7 years.

Information on the Lloyd's policy cover and the type of damage covered by the policy is unknown.
